Plot[edit]
Initially, the story focuses on the lives and arranged marriages of 2 female cousins, Gopi Kapadia (Giaa Manek/Devoleena Bhattacharjee) and Rashi Shah (Rucha Hasabnis). Gopi had been adopted by her maternal uncle Jeetu Shah and his wife, Urmila (Vandana Vithlani) after her own parents died; she is left illiterate, naive, kind and shy, while Rashi, their own daughter, is educated, self-confident, vivacious and cunning. Urmila and Rashi resent Gopi for the latter's kindness and good nature which everybody loves. They treat her as a slave and humiliate her on a daily basis.
Kokila Modi (Rupal Patel), a rich, strict and strong-minded lady chooses Gopi to marry her son, Ahem (Mohammad Nazim), a serious, hard-working CEO. He already has a girlfriend, Anita Mehta (Iira Soni), but chooses his mother's wish over her and weds Gopi. Rashi marries Jigar (Vishal Singh), Ahem's fun-loving, warm-hearted paternal cousin through deception, and becomes a daughter-in-law of the Modi family as well.
Ahem hates Gopi for being illiterate and believes her to be a gold-digger, as she knew about his relationship with Anita and still married him. Gradually, Kokila transforms Gopi into a confident and smarter woman so that she is accepted by her husband. Ahem and Gopi get closer to each other after she becomes literate and their love blossoms. Urmila and Rashi create many difficulties for Gopi but in the end, both cousins are happily accepted into their family and by their spouses.
Gopi gives birth to a daughter, named Meera, while Rashi delivers twin-boys, called Sahir and Samar. Gopi also finds her long-lost parents, and gets to know her younger biological sister, Radha (Bhavini Purohit), a pampered and selfish girl. She falls in love with Umang Mehta (Akshay Sethi/Anas Khan), Anita's brother, who vows to avenge the Modi family for his sister's bitterness, and marries him, but he is already secretly married to his accomplice, Tripti (Pooja Welling). The latter kills him out of jealousy in front of Gopi. Radha misunderstands the situation and, blaming Gopi for Umang's demise, makes her trip and drop Meera in a river. Gopi is blamed for Meera's death and gets thrown out of Modi Mansion.
8 years later[edit]
Gopi is raising her second daughter, Vidya, single-handedly, Kokila and Ahem are in depression and Rashi is the new matriarch of the Modi family. Eventually, Gopi finds out Meera never died, but grew up as an orphan and retrieves her. Ahem is to marry Radha, but Urmila and Rashi kidnap and swap her with Gopi so that she remarries Ahem. Radha's true colours are revealed and she is sent to jail. Later, Rashi sacrifices her life to save Gopi from an obsessed man who was in love with her. Urmila gets Jigar engaged to Paridhi Mehta (Lovey Sasan), Rashi's cousin but Radha returns, tricks him into sleeping with her and gets pregnant. She delivers a daughter, who is also named Rashi. Radha threatens to kill baby Rashi because she is named after Jigar's late wife and Jigar divorces her and marries Paridhi. Radha attempts to destroy the Modi family, leaving Gopi no other option but to kill her own sister. Gopi is sentenced to 14 years in jail.
10 years later[edit]
Gopi's sentence is reduced due to her good behaviour. She returns to her family, to find out it has fallen apart. Kokila is looking after Urmila, who is mentally disabled, and Junior Rashi, whom Paridhi refuses to accept. Ahem is living in Mumbai, with his and Gopi's two daughters and another woman, Mansi Raheja (Kajal Pisal). Meera (Tanya Sharma) has grown up to be arrogant, independent and selfish, while Vidya (Sonam Lamba) is kind, caring and patient. Ahem and the daughters both blame Gopi for abandoning them but, eventually, she manages to reunite the family. However, Meera refuses to accept Gopi and creates many problems for her.
Kokila's childhood friend, Gaura Suryavanshi (Vandana Pathak) enters the story to take revenge for her brother's death, caused by Kokila's mistake. Oblivious to Gaura's intentions, the Modis arrange Vidya's marriage to her grandson, Shravan (Kunal Singh). Gaura secretly gets Meera married to her son and Shravan's father, Dharam (Amar Upadhyay), Dharam who was equally involved in the revenge game with Gaura, trapped Meera in their plan by constantly instigating her against her family, gaura somehow managed to brainwash Meera and made her hate the Modis severely. After Dharam Meera marriage they shared a hate relationship with each other they kept challenging each other, which led to occasional minor banters, due to their age gap and difference in opinions. With much of Meera time being spent in proximity with the Dharam the hatred soon begins to turn into attraction between the two. They gradually fell in love and got remarried after all the misunderstandings.
4 years later[edit]
Gopi has been extremely depressed since Ahem's demise, she has not smiled or talked for 4 years. Meanwhile, Meera hates Vidya (who has become a mother to a daughter, Priyal), as she believes the latter to be responsible for the former's miscarriage, while the real culprit is actually Naiya, Shravan's sister, who had done if for the sake of inheritance.
Kokila decides to accept Dr. Krishna Raheja (Khalid Siddiqui)'s marriage proposal for Gopi, but on the wedding day she recovers, refusing to marry Dr. Krishna. Gopi manages the Modi family's problems by taking the family business over. It is then revealed that Krishna is Mansi's brother and the 2, along with their mother, Pramila (Utkarsha Naik), have come to take revenge on Gopi for separating Mansi from Ahem and hummiliating Krishna on the wedding venue. Kokila hires Jaggi (Mohammad Nazim), Ahem's illegitimate paternal half-brother and doppelganger, to save Gopi from Dr. Krishna's evil plans, and he eventually succeeds.
She later marries Jaggi to save him from the traps of an evil woman, Radhika (Payal Ghosh). The 2 gradually fall in love and the family accepts their relationship. Gaura returns once again to destroy the Modi family. She pays Chanda (Anju Tiwary), the surrogate mother of Meera and Dharam's issue, to create troubles for the family and kills her when the latter attempts to expose the former (not before Meera's twins are delivered), putting the blame on Vidya, and tries to frame Kokila for the attempted murder of Jaggi's mother, Urvashi Singh (Shagufta Ali) but eventually, all of Gaura's crimes are caught.
The Modis rescue a girl, named Sita Rathod (Shruti Prakash), from a forced marriage. Her stepmother, Bhavani (Priya Marathe) falls in love with Dharam, separates him from Meera and compels her to leave the house. Gopi learns that Vidya is not her daughter; there was a baby swap. Gopi's child is Ramakant (Rohit Suchanti), a spoiled and selfish young man, living in Singapore. She goes there with Jaggi, to retrieve her son. He heavily troubles the Modis, but is unable to return to Singapore due to his criminal record. The Modis arrange his marriage to Sita, but on the wedding day, he elopes with and marries Sameera Pankaj (Priya Tandon), who turns out to be Anita's daughter. Unknown to Ramakant, Sameera wants revenge from the Modis, blaming them for her mother's death. She joins hands with Bhavani and her accomplice, Pinku (Vishal), to ruin the Modi family. Meera returns and vows to win Dharam back. Together with Vidya, Gopi, Jaggi, Kokila and the rest of the family, she exposes all the villains' crimes (including Bhavani killing her husband and Sita's father, Keshavlal (Rajesh Puri), so that she can be with Dharam) and sends them to jail. Ramakant also apologises for his past mistakes and expresses his genuine feelings for Sita. The series ends with Sita and Ramakant's wedding and everybody living happily ever after.
